Calopteryx haemorrhoidalis - Copper Demoiselle - Caloptére méditérranean

Description

This striking damselfly is easily recognized by the male's purplish-red, metallic body and the broad, dark bands on the wings. The female has a green-bronze body and usually exhibits a narrow dark band near the tips of the hindwings. It is found near clean running water in Southern France and all around the Western Mediterranean.

Observations

13/06/2004   About 5 males seen on la Marette stream near Octon, Hérault (34).

02/07/2004   Single female by the River Orb near Bédarieux, Hérault (34).

20/05/2005   Possible female on stream near car park at plan d'eau near Lunas, Hérault (34).

31/05/2005   A few males seen by Le Verdus stream, St-Guilhem-le-Desert (34)

15/07/2006   Two males and one female on bushes by the River Orb between Hérépian and Bédarieux (34).

10/07/2008   Male and female seen at the Plan d'eau near Lunas

14/07/2008   About 30 males and females seen at two sites on the La Peyne stream below Lac des Olivettes, Roujan (34)

09/06/2009   30-100 mainly males at the La Peyne stream near to the Barrage des Olivettes.
