Calopteryx splendens splendens - Banded Demoiselle - Caloptéryx éclatant

Description

The male of this distinctive, large damselfly has its wings heavily marked with blue-black spots. The female has translucent greenish wings. The markings on the wing of the male are less extensive than in either C. virgo or C. s. xanthostoma. This species frequents sluggish rivers, canals or sometimes lakes with muddy bottoms.

24/05/2007   3-10 males and females seen near the River Orb at Hérépian
