Crocothemis erythraea - Scarlet Darter - La Libellule écarlate

Description

An unmistakeable dragonfly. The male is a vivid scarlet with red-veined wings. The body is comparatively broad. Usually found near shallow lakes and ponds and paddy fields.

Observations

23/09/2004   Many males seen near the lake at Pont de Gau, near Stes-Maries-de-la-Mer, Bouches du Rhone (13)

20/05/2005   Solitary male patrolling at the edge of the plan d'eau, Lunas, Hérault (34).

22/06/2006   2 or 3 males in grass near to the Plan d'eau, Lunas (34)

08/06/2007   1 male at the Scamandre reserve in the Petit Camargue

09/06/2007   3-10 males and females at the Pallisade Reserve in the Camargue

09/06/2007   Solitary female at the Capelière Reserve in the Camargue

10/06/2007   10-30 males at the Parc Ornithologique, Pont de Gau in the Camargue

10/07/2008   Solitary male at the Plan d'eau near Lunas
