Lestes (Chalcolestes) viridis - Willow Emerald Damselfly - Le Leste vert

Description

This insect is metallic, coppery green above and yellow beneath. It rests with its wings partly open and the yellow or pale brown pterostigma is a useful identifying feature. The male appendages are pale with darkened tips. It is found near ponds, lakes and slow-flowing rivers with overhanging marginal vegetation. Willow twigs are often selected for oviposition. Mainly found in August and September.

Observations

01/09/2004   One male found on bushes by the Lac du Salagou, Hérault (34).

23/08/2006   Solitary male in reeds near to pool by the River Orb at Cazoules-les-Béziers.
