Trithemis annulata - Violet-marked Darter - Trithémis annelé

Description

This attractive insect is red and blue-violet in colour (males). The wings have bright red veins. It is extending its range and is now easy to find in suitable habitats (lakes and slow-flowing rivers) in Southern France whereas it is more typical of North Africa.

Observations

01/09/2004   About thirty individuals seen by the Lac du Salagou, Hérault (34).

23/08/2006   A single male seen patrolling the banks by a slow-flowing section of the River Orb at Cazouls-les-Béziers.
